We often limit our dreams to our capabilities or what seems attainable. And in this age of competition, we pit our dreams and abilities against each other. But what if, we didn’t limit our dreams? Instead, what if we went about finding the right resources, the needed skills and those who possessed them to make our dreams come true?
Do you see where I am going with this? The train of thought was inspired by a television series. The one, Business Insider reported was “the most in-demand series globally across all platforms” — Money Heist.
First off the disclaimer: I am not in any way glorifying or promoting any illegal activity. My appreciation of the show is limited to its entertainment value.
The series is a complete entertainment package with twists and turns. As I have watched it over the seasons, a few things have stood out that I believe go beyond mere entertainment value.
The show in a way shows us how to chase impossible dreams, with sheer determination and how to stay the course till the very end. In short, they are:
1. Always look for the right people for the job: No one is an expert at everything. Bring in the right talent and you are a step closer to your goal.
2. Practice servant leadership: Everyone must prosper. Only the right incentives will induce team members to give their best.
3. Even when you are under pressure, focus on the goal: Pressure is a part of life; there’s no escaping it. But, how you deal with it will determine whether you triumph or fail.
4. Your dream should be everyone else’s dream: Everyone in the team should be invested in the goal. Don’t expect anyone else to slog for your dream. Ask, what’s in it for each one.
5. People can be replaced but the mission goes on: The mantra — the show must go on — is apt. Expect losses, setbacks and heartbreaks. But, never lose sight of the goal.
6. Leadership by the situation: Know what your team needs and be willing to go the distance to provide it. Acknowledge the expertise of team members. Give them their due.
These nuggets of wisdom from the Professor does make incredible feats seem within reach. So I urge you. Have an improbable dream. Build your dream team. Lead the team to success!
And while you are at it, tell me, what did you learn from the series — Money Heist?
